#FaceFacts - How often should you change your pillowcase?

An average person without any major skin issues should change their pillowcase once a week. For those with acne, oily-prone skin change it every two to three days.

Not everyone’s skin is equally impacted by their pillows. But if you’re prone to breakouts, pillowcases can worsen an already delicate situation and cause more irritation. Here are some preventive steps.

Wash your face every night. While that seems obvious, not everyone does it. It prevents dirt, grime or makeup from getting onto your bedding.

Sleep on pillowcases made from natural fabrics. These materials themselves breathe better and transfer less oil. Also, if you are using acne medications containing benzoyl peroxide or retinoids, these products can deposit on your pillowcase.

Don’t use liquid fabric softeners or dryer sheets on your pillowcases. They both leave behind a waxy residue that is highly pore clogging. Keep in mind fragrance free fabric softeners aren’t any better. It’s the softening agents that are a problem for acne-prone skin.
